Whether you are taking your first steps into Ikebana or seeking to refine your technique and deepen your practice, my private classes and workshops offer a unique space to master this spiritual flower art form. Hands-on, meditative, and creative, each session invites you to express yourself artistically while cultivating mindfulness, focus, and a deeper connection to the natural world

Sogetsu Ikebana Private Class

Duration: 1.5 hours
Maximum Participants: 6
Materials: Beginner Class: Flower materials provided for the first 10 arrangements
Advanced Class: Flower materials provided for the first 5 arrangements

 

This structured course is ideal for students who aspire to master the techniques and spiritual foundations of Sogetsu Ikebana, with the intention of becoming certified practitioners or future teachers. Following the official Sogetsu textbook curriculum (Textbooks I–V), students will progressively develop their skills in composition, floral material handling, aesthetic judgment and spiritual meaning. In addition to practical exercises, the program introduces the Fifty Principles of Sogetsu Ikebana, offering rich insight into its philosophical and meditative dimensions.

 

Participants should bring:

  • A flat container (Suiban) for Moribana approximately 8–10” in diameter, 2–3” high

  • A tall container for Nageire at least 10” high, 3-5” diameter

  • A flower pin holder (Kenzan), minimum 3” in diameter

  • Ikebana scissors (Hasami)

Beginners may borrow a full set for their first lesson or pre-order a kit (minimum 3 weeks in advance). Advanced students are expected to bring their own tools.

Objets d’Ikebana – Creative Exploration Class

Duration: 8 sessions, 1.5 hours each
Maximum Participants: 6
Materials: Provided or loaned for each class (students are encouraged to bring own material, tool and container after the first lesson)


This flexible, creativity-focused class introduces participants to the essential principles of Ikebana through a Sogetsu-inspired approach. Without adhering to the formal curriculum, students will explore floral design as an artistic, expressive, and meditative practice. Perfect for those seeking an enriching, short-term immersion in this spiritual flower art form.

Sogetsu Ikebana Thematic Workshop

Duration: 1.5 hours

These advanced workshops are designed for students who have completed at least two Sogetsu textbooks and wish to deepen their expertise through focused exploration of specific themes. Each session dives into advanced arranging concepts such as:

  • Containers & Their Dialogue with Flowers

  • Seasonal or Festival Arrangements

  • Table & Wall Arrangements

  • “Countervoice” Concepts

  • Large-Scale and Sculptural Works

  • Intersections of Contemporary Art & Ikebana

 

Schedule

  1. Preparation Briefing – 30-minute online session to discuss theme and materials

  2. Creative Completion – Check-in (10 min) & in-class finalization of the pre-arranged work (30 min)

  3. Discussion & Reflection – Feedback and Guidance for Further Development (30 min) and Clean-up (10 min)
